I've used the 4th and now am using the 5th Grade Abeka Academy DVD system. I like how the classes are recorded in front of a real classroom with real students. The teachers refer often to the "students watching" bringing you into the class with them. Lessons are all pre-recorded and not from the current year. I am so happy with the teaching my son now receives through Abeka Academy. The Bible and God are woven through each subject which I like so much. I have to say that home schooling with Abeka Academy materials/DVD's allows the student to learn without the issues in the classroom that can distract from learning. My son does complain of the math regarding repeated hard division problems and is tired of it but he will be good at it when he is older. Math is the most time consuming subject of all but the teacher makes it fun. I encourage him to keep on or start something else and pick up later. I have been very happy with the teachers and their personalities. It is important to let your child interact with other kids in the world and not keep them in a bubble. If not you are doing them a disservice. We are to be "in the world but not of it." I am grateful for this resource especially given what changes are taking place today in our world. If you can fit the DVD system into your budget I recommend it. My son wants to continue on with homeschooling using Abeka Academy. DVD system frees the parent up to be a parent more than a teacher.
