Thanksgiving Day Traditions

Most of us are familiar with and accept the images taught in school of the faithful Pilgrims seeking religious freedom in our great country of America. We remember the stories of how the Indians helped the settlers to plant and harvest crops so they could survive the harsh weather.

We may even recall completing Thanksgiving worksheets in school that asked us to fill in the blanks with answers or complete essay questions based on the Pilgrims, Indians, and other memorable names associated with the history of Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Day History

However, some people allege that our present day record of the Thanksgiving facts with the Pilgrims and Indians is untrue and does not disclose the true motives and deeds of the European settlers, or invaders as they would characterize them.

A lot of debate surrounds the actual account of the history of Thanksgiving. It depends on who is presenting the information as to how the Thanksgiving facts are recorded. Some speak very bluntly about alleged atrocities committed by the settlers upon the unsuspecting and unarmed Native Americans.

I am not a scholar on the history of Thanksgiving but would encourage everyone to be as the Bereans in Acts 17:11 in the Bible who searched daily to see if the words spoken (by Paul) were true or not.
